Privacy Policy

Recall (“Recall”, “we”, “us”) is a spaced-repetition study tool available as a web app and a browser extension. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Recall you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

  • Account information. When you create an account or sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address. With Google Sign-In we request only the openid, email, and profile scopes and use them solely to identify your account.
  • Study content you provide. The topics and notes you submit so that Recall can generate flashcards.
  • Generated content. The flashcards (questions, answers, multiple-choice options) created from your notes.
  • Study activity. Your review history, spaced-repetition scheduling state (SM-2), and progress statistics such as streaks and cards due.

Recall does not collect your browsing history or the content of web pages you visit. The on-page study widget only displays your own flashcards; it does not read or transmit page content.

How we use your information

  • To authenticate you and maintain your account.
  • To generate flashcards from the notes you provide and to store them in your account.
  • To schedule reviews at the optimal time and track what you remember over time.
  • To synchronize your cards and progress across the extension and the web app.

How your data is processed and shared

We do not sell your personal data or share it for advertising. We use a limited set of service providers to operate Recall:

  • Google Sign-In — for optional authentication.
  • Google Gemini API — the notes you submit are sent to Google’s Gemini API to generate flashcards. Content is processed to provide this feature.
  • Hosting & database providers — our backend and database (used to store your account, cards, and progress) are hosted with cloud infrastructure providers.

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and service.

Where your data is stored

Some data is stored locally on your device (in the browser’s local storage and IndexedDB) so the extension can work offline and schedule reviews without a network connection. Your account, cards, and progress are also stored on our backend so they sync across devices. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Data retention and deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing us at the address below; we will delete it within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law. You can also clear locally stored data by removing the extension or clearing your browser storage.

Children’s privacy

Recall is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
